R3: Welily in fire against Waters

[1] Raneem El Welily (Egy) 3-0 [11] Alison Waters (Eng) 11-1, 11-3, 11-4 (24m)

Well, the score doesn’t tell the whole story. Yes, Raneem was on fire and blasting winners and perfect length all over the court.

But what it doesn’t say is how hard and relentless Alison was tonight. She never stopped pushing Raneem, and even got a few lovely winners along the way!

First game, well, 11/1 in 6m, not much to say about that one really. A bit more meat in the second, 9m, with a score as sharp as before but Alison produced some superb rallies there, truly.

Adding insult to injury when on game ball, the ball just goes nick dead at the back of the court for Raneem, who profusely apologised bless her sweet cotton socks.

The last game, 7m, 2/2, 6/2, 11/4, again Alison trying to contain the shooting at will but not much luck there yet again.

Nour El Tayeb awaits tomorrow…

“I’m pleased with the way I played, I couldn’t have asked for a better performance today. Alison is such a strong player, she is one of those players that I have seen since day one and she, along with Laura, Jenny and many other English girls took the game to a new level. I’m always pleased to be with Alison on court, I was just trying to stay in every rally as much as possible and not let anything go loose.

“Nour  is at the top of her game right now and playing very good squash. She has had very good results so far this season and I know it’s not going to be an easy match but I’m definitely up for the challenge.”
