Joshna holds off Farida comeback

Joshna Chinappa (IND) 3-2 Farida Mohamed (EGY)   11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 10-12, 11-8 (59m)

We cannot not remember Farida last year at BlackBall going down 2/0 against Joelle King and clawing back to take the match (helped by Joelle serving out of match ball down mind). So I didn’t write the chances of the Egyptian out after the loss of the two first games.

A great display of physical power and racquet skills, a few contacts between the two players, but the Ref John Masseralla in control of that one, and the match ending on a stroke, to the great displeasure of Farida, that got out stating that no, it wasn’t, and went on speaking in Arabic which I’m sure meant ‘I’m very happy with that last decision, you really made my day…”

Joshna

She takes a little time to warm up, but once she gets going, it’s hard to stop and contain her!

She played some great winners, maybe there were a few rallies that weren’t that nice to look at, I don’t know, I got knocked out a few times.

I’m relieved to be through, it could have been either of us. But in the 5th I tried to keep it simple, she was in full confidence having come back from 2/0 down, I didn’t want to open it too much for her, and I think that I was just a bit more consistent at the end of that game.
