Marwan beats Mazen in four

QF:  [6] Marwan ElShorbagy (EGY) 3-1 Mazen Hesham (EGY) 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 11-3 (60m)

Not sure what to say about this match to be honest.

Mazen was playing patiently at times, and I guess it could have been an interesting match if it wasn’t for Marwan’s constant confrontation with the ref.

Marwan:

“I’m a little bit annoyed with myself for this performance. Before this season I said to myself that if I have to play against my opponent and sometimes the referee, sometimes the decision won’t go my way and I have to accept that Today, I felt I was getting on with the referees and not focusing on my game.

“Most of the decisions now haven’t been going my way for this event and the last event, and I don’t know what the referees have been told to do exactly against me, but most of those 50/50 decisions don’t go my way.

“I accept it if they tell me to go and play the ball and give some space, but they have to say that to all the players as well. Whatever they’ve been doing, they need to change their minds about it. I don’t mind it because whatever they’re trying to do, it’s not working, but I’m just annoyed I didn’t focus on my game.

“I’m happy to win the match though and I’m pretty sure I’ll be sharper for tomorrow’s match. I played okay, I wasn’t too happy with today’s performance but I’m happy to win and get through and get into the semis, anything is better than losing today.”
