QF: Hania in complete control against Nele

[3] Hania El Hammamy (EGY) 3-0 [12] Nele Gilis (BEL)  11-2, 11-7, 11-5 (38m)

The Belgium will be disappointed by her performance in the first game. She couldn’t find any solutions to the problems Hania was creating. The Egyptian was on the T, perfect drives  on the backhand – which was not the case in her game against Salma Hany. She didn’t have to move much as she was dispatching winners all over the court.

The second saw a complete change in Nele’s position on the court, forcing a few unforced errors from the Egyptian (3 in 5 points). We had a match finally… 4/1 for Nele. Hania feels the danger, and levels 4/4 and zooms to 8/4, scoring 7 points in a row.

Some lovely rallies there, another error from Hania thanks to Nele’s pressure, but it’s the Egyptian that takes the last point and it’s 11/7 in 13m.

The last game was as the first one, 9m, close up to 4/4, Hania zooming to 9/4, taking the match 11/5.

Hania

“There was a huge difference in my performance today. I knew that the last 16 match would definitely set me up for this one and make me sharp so I’m really pleased. I was very alert as well as I knew Nele was coming into this season in good form so I had to be very careful, have a good plan and execute it from the first point. I’m very glad with the way I played.

“I just watched the last three games and I looked how smooth I was with my movement and how relaxed I was and I tried to train and find those feelings in my sessions this morning. That was basically what changed.

“I’m playing against [Nouran] Gohar now and we’ve played so many times already and we know each other’s games. It’s a new season, we’re fresh off the off-season and I’m sure she’s trained and has some things she wants to execute this season and I think it’s going to be interesting what we throw at each other.”
