Contrasting women’s semi-finals saw top seed Raneem El Welily go through to the final after the early retirement of Nour El Tayeb, while Nouran Gohar survived a real battle with Sarah-Jane Perry.

Men’s top seed Ali  Farag came from a game down to beat Daryl Selby, and Paul Coll denied an Egyptian full house as he beat Fares Dessouky in five.
