QF: “Amina dealt with the conditions very well, as I knew she would” Gina

[2] Amina Orfi (Egy) 3-0 [8] Gina Kennedy (Eng) 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 (52m)

Gina: What can I say about the circumstances? It’s the same for everybody. What would have been best? Today, definitely on the glass, because I’d prepared for it. I’d prepared for 7 o’clock, eating-wise, because I knew I was first on, not at 9.30.

When I got here… I know we both had to deal with it, and I know it’s my fault, but I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m starving.’ When I was on court, I just felt distracted. I was hungry, I couldn’t focus, I felt very depleted. We warmed up, we started, and… yeah, it was tough. But she dealt with it very well, as I knew she would. I knew there wouldn’t be any wavering from her.”

“I just made so many errors, and that’s not acceptable. There were a few times where it was just the wrong shot and the wrong decision. But I agree, on a couple of them it was the right shot to play and I just didn’t execute it. I do remember thinking, ‘OK, that’s the right shot.’ But there were also some poor choices after long rallies.”

I definitely felt my decision-making was poor. Just little things like that. It’s frustrating, but you have to deal with it. It was probably a good opportunity, because it threw her off as well. These are the opportunities where you need to step up and take them, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to do that.

Maybe next time we play each other.”
