English World No.39 Curtis Malik upset Scotland’s World No.17 Greg Lobban as the Englishman survived a nervy ending to avenge his defeat to Lobban at this year’s British National Championships with a straight-games victory.

“I think I was a lot more mentally stable today. The last time we played, Greg’s a very experienced player and he’s clever and I needed to stick to my plan and I did that until about 7-0 in the third where I switched off a bit but I’m really happy I stuck to the plan!
“I was [expletive] myself when he got back to about 5-7 because I’d done really well until that point and he gets a couple and I tense up and all of a sudden it’s level pegging again and you have to try to find those extra couple of points to win.”
