[8] Gina Kennedy (Eng) 3-0 Tesni Murphy (Wal) 11-5, 13-11, 11-3 (33m)
Gina
Very difficult to play Tes, she is one of my best friends on Tour. Every time I see her, I’m just so happy, we get on so well, so even before a match, even like I’m a serious person, I see Tes, and I’m having fun. So it’s not nice to play her.
Not only that, but she is so bloody good at squash!
If you are missing your target even slightly, she can just put it away from anywhere. It was actually a very good match for me to get into the tournament, as I was injured for the last 6 weeks of summer, Tes obviously knows all that, so it must have been difficult for her in that way as well. I started training only 2 days before the London Classic last week, and after missing out of the UK Nationals.
I was actually very happy with the way I was moving in that match.
The second game was really crucial, her confidence would have gone up and I would have probably started to doubt myself a bit. So I am really happy I had the fire in my belly to win that one. A very difficult one to get through.
Especially last week, I was a bit anxious, because I’m under prepared. I’m used to get my confidence from doing all the physical stuff, where I haven’t been doing that. I’ve been feeling a bit anxious, and to realise that I’ve put so much work in over the years, if my body is healthy, I have a better chance of winning as opposed to try and grind two hard sessions all the time, and feel something is wrong.
I’m still learning, this is my 5th season on tour, even if I’m 28, I feel like I’m still kind of learning what’s best for me.
I’m really looking to my Nele’s match, she is on really good form, it’s going to be good.
