Gohar dethrones Sherbini
Nouran Gohar is the new CIB Egyptian Open women’s champion, after she completed a thrilling victory over defending champion Nour El Sherbini. In a repeat of their British Open final of last month, which Sherbini won in five games.
Gohar took a two game lead only to see Sherbini storm back to level and establish a 10-7 lead in the decider. The next five points all went the way of Gohar though as she claimed the title on her first match ball.
Farag comes back to retain the title
Ali Farag recovered from a two game deficit to beat top seed Mohamed ElShorbagy to retain the men’s title he won last year.
ElShorbagy dominated the first, but Farag’s comeback started in the second even though he lost it. There was a sense of inevitability in the last three games as Farag controlled the play to complete the comeback.
