R3: Fares stops Adam 3/0

[15] Fares Dessouky (EGY) 3-0 Adam Hawal (EGY) 11-2, 11-8, 11-5 (39m)

To be honest, I was expecting that kind of result. For three reasons.

One. Adam made his two upsets (Curtis and Paul) on a traditional court, which not only suits his game but also that he knows very well. Playing on a glass court is a completely game, and at the Pyramids if you please.

Two. Fares has started training with one of the best coaches around, Hesham Attar, who doesn’t need presentations. He has a few good players at the moment, including Aly Abou Eleinen, Fares and Karim El Hammamy. And it would look like Hesham was able to find a way to Faress’ psyche, and hopefully, will graft a few ‘discipline and brain’ cells. Kidding. Or am I….

More seriously, we had Fearless Fares on court tonight, as lethal as he used to be a few years ago. Virtually impossible to beat when he is on his game.

Three. It’s much easier to play at the unknown 17 years old player than to play as the Boy that ousted Paul Coll in 5.

Adam put so much on his shoulders and was destroyed by the loss. Devastated and felt humiliated not to have given a better performance. Because that’s the kind of player he is. He doesn’t care what he achieved the day before. He wants to be better and beat everybody TODAY. He doesn’t look for excuses or pity.

And I have no doubt that Karim Darwish, his coach, will tell him exactly what I’m saying: it was to be expected. Let go and work for the next competition.

Fares

I want to firstly congratulate Adam on an amazing tournament. Especially to his team as well. Beating Paul Coll two days ago was amazing.

For sure, I felt the pressure today, but I’m glad I managed to get the win.

I’m glad to have played on the glass court today ahead of my next round. I’m sure it will help me out.

Last time I played Victor, I was injured so I couldn’t give 100% and hopefully after tomorrow I can play my best and play some good squash.”
