Q2: Ruqayya Salem (EGY) 3-2 [4] Torrie Malik (ENG)

Ruqayya Salem (EGY) 3-2 [4] Torrie Malik (ENG)  9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-3, 11-3 (41m)

This was not an easy match for the English girl, who was close to tears at the end and took an awful long time to recover from the loss, staying on the floor next to the courts. Ruqayya, 16 yo, from Gezira Club, on the other hand, had no expectations about the match and didn’t even know who her next opponent might be…

Ruqayya : It wasn’t an easy match at all, Torrie is an amazing player, she is better ranked than I am [Torrie is 54WR, Ruqayya is 185]. To be honest, I was not expecting much from the match.

We have a lot of traffic issues today, more than normal, it was very heavy traffic! I was just trying to get through, play my shots and not think of it much, and I’m just happy to get the win today. Just glad I got through it.

She is playing most of her shots with a lot of weight at the back of the court, very accurate, high quality squash. I had to raise the height of my shots, I volleyed a lot as well.

Actually I’m not sure who I am playing tomorrow, as I said, I didn’t expect much from this match, and I didn’t look at the draw…
