[7] Fayrouz Aboelkheir (Egy) 3-2 [12] Jasmine Hutton (Eng) 5-11, 11-2, 11-5, 7-11, 11-3 (45m)
Tough, very tough pace on court between the two completely different style of players. Fayrouz loves to take her time, find her winners from a great length/width, whereas the English lady enjoys that incredible fast hard hitting to the front corners, very accurate, putting her opponents under enormous pressure.
Of course, that powerful attacking game can end up in the tin, and it’s all a question of balancing it. And at the start of the decider, Jasmine tried and forced it just a fraction, two errors in a row, that gave just a 2 points cushion to the Egyptian. That seemed to relax Fayrouz, who then zoomed to the finishing line, 11/3…
Fayrouz : “It was definitely a tough match, and Jas is really hard to play against. I’m just very happy to get the win today. I think she loves playing really quick and at a high pace, so I’m happy I managed to play at that pace, even though it’s not my favourite.
It also suited both of us a little bit, the long rallies, so it was kind of equal. But I think in the end it was more in my favour.
In the 4t,h I made a huge mistake, misjudging her position, so I played a shot straight into her. I got so frustrated in my head, because you don’t want to do that. But I thought she had moved, because last time the ref called it a stroke. That was the turning point. She got really pumped, and I got really worried in my head.
I tried to apologise, she was not too keen in having it but I get it, adrenalin after the match, and I know it was my fault, so I had to apologise anyway.
