SF : Sherbini sneaks past injured Serme

Top seed Nour El Sherbini overcomes Camille Serme in four games as the French woman retires injured

[1] Nour El Sherbini (Egy) 3-1 [3] Camille Serme (Fra) 11-2, 8-11, 11-1, 8-9 rtd (43m)

Quelle tristesse. Seeing Camille sobbing in pain on the court as she was fighting against Nour today. It’s well documented that Camille was suffering since she retired from the British with a tendinitis in her calf.

Today, although feeling her injury, she was fighting tooth and nail against the Princess, and in a strange match – Nour dominating completely in 5m (11/2, 11/1), or losing the game 11/8 in 11m. A very strange match coming from the two girls..

And the fourth was again a “we have a match on our hands” game, Camille 2 points away from levelling the games and forcing a decider, 9/8 when she had a sharp pain in her left leg, fell on the floor and wasn’t able to stand up again.

We’ll give you more info asa she is assessed.

Nour :It is the worst ending of any match and you never want to win the match like this. I am really sorry for Camille, she has been injured in the last tournament and she didn’t have the chance to compete in the British Open and injuries is the worst enemy for any player,” the World No.1 said.

I am very sorry for her and hopefully it is not too bad and she will recover and come back soon.

It depends on the court conditions and your opponent. I was playing well, the whole match, even at the end, and I was still happy with my performance.

Camille:

I never came out of a court in these conditions…
Not easy to end this competition that way, but I’m proud of myself knowing where I come from, and very thankful to have @jbellegroux and @philippe.signoret.64 with le here 🙏🏼
Back to France tomorrow, and scans on Monday to know more about this injury, but I know I have a great team to recover and come back!
Thanks a lot everyone for your very kind messages ❤️🙏🏼
