[3] Hania El Hammamy (EGY) 3-1 [4] Amina Orfi (EGY) 11-6, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4 (76m)
Hania has changed.
She looks like she mutated in a different athlete. Yes, she still talks loudly to the ref once in a while, but she gets back quickly into the zone mode now. And there is an authority coming from her now that she didn’t have before.
She attacks. She dominates. She controls. She defends, to find a way to attack again.
Tonight, she did that beautifully for the first two games, 6/1, 8/2, 9/5 11/6.
17m – lots of hard work from Amina, responding strongly but not able to get in front – and not a single error from either.
Basically the same in the second game, 6/1, 8/2, 9/3 this time and 11/5, in 15m.
One error each.
The third is extraordinary from Amina. From 5/2 down, the Destroyer not only levels but also overtakes Hania 8/6, 9/7, 11/8 on a video decision, stroke.
20m game. 1 error from Hania. O from Amina. Incredible squash quality from both.
Hania comes back strongly in the 4th, and reassesses her authority game. Calmely, never panicking, finding again her target, keeping the young contender from attacking from a good position, making the court very, very big.
4/1, 6/2, 7/3, 11/4, 12m, the shortest game of the match.
Hania is raising her arms, racquet flying… She has done it.
A quicky slap of the hands between the two players. Not much love lost between those two. Hania complained several times about her opponent movement, and so did Amina.
I have that feeling we are going to see more and more of those battles in a near future…
What a performance from Hania El Hammamy! 🙌 🏆

“I’m over the moon!
“I have a lot of my friends and family here and they’re not allowed not to come to any of my matches anymore – they’re a lucky charm for sure!
“I’m really happy with my whole event this week and my start to the season.
“It’s just exciting, I just want to build from here and replicate it as best as possible. I want to keep pushing to higher levels.
“I’ve been taught so many lessons from both El Sherbini and Gohar and now standing here in this position I feel I have gained so much knowledge. Hopefully I won’t stop at World No.2.”
