Sam Todd (Eng) 3-1 [wc] Adham Roshdy (Egy) 13-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7 (71m)
People think Wild Card, easy draw… Maybe anywhere else than Egypt, but believe me when I tell you that a WC here is a loose cannon, a bomb in waiting. We saw Anahat suffer today against a WC, we saw LL taking out higher ranked players…
And I feel that Sam today was very clever to fight tooth and nail for that opener….
21m of truly hard work for both players, not much between them throughout, although the English boy manages to edge ahead 10/8 game ball. It won’t be enough to close out; Adham gets his chance at 11/10, but Toddy finally wins it only just 13/11, on his third game ball.
A bit of a drop of mental and physical juice for the Egyptian in the second, 9m 11/2. But did he get his second wind… Carried and supported by the local crowd, the 19 yo really took the game to the Pontefract Star. Up to 8/8, nothing between them but this time round, it’s the contender that leads 10/8, levelling game at 1/1, 11/9 in 15m.
The fourth sees the English boy leading 4/1, 6/2. Adham seems lost at sea, but a little collision seems to damage his back, and he gets a little rest from the physio.
It won’t be enough to close the gap and Sambo takes the game and match, 11/7, 20m game but let’s take out a good 5m out of it for the ‘contributed injury time’.

“I thought I started well, and the second game I stepped up and started to take the ball in short more. The third game, all credit to him, he picked up the pace and I was maybe a little bit short to bounce back.
“I did well to regroup in the fourth and get the win.
“It was a great crowd tonight. Not many cheering for me! But I always enjoy playing in places like this, it’s great to see so many people watching. I’m looking forward to the next round.”
