[Q] Ruqayya Salem (Egy) 3-1 [9] Tinne Gilis (Bel) 17-15, 4-11, 11-5, 11-9 (51m)
The dream run continues for Egyptian Qualifier Ruqayya Salem!
From 9-5 down in fourth game, Salem reels off six straight points to defeat ninth seed Tinne Gilis and claim the biggest win of her career to date. A third-round meeting with Nouran Gohar now awaits the teenager in Cairo.
“I’m very excited to play tomorrow.
“Actually in the fourth game, I really don’t know what happened. I know it’s completely wrong, but I was trying to throw it away, I was thinking that at parts. Then I started winning lots of points in a row, and thought that this was going to be it [the moment I could win].
“I knew I had to keep pushing all the way until the end in that moment, and it worked.
“I’m very excited to play Nouran tomorrow. She just came back on tour and I think it’s going to be a tough one. I’m looking forward to it – I’ll just try play my best and produce the best squash I can.”
🎙️ "Never in a million years could you have told me I’d be in the third round of the Egyptian Open" 🔥
