R3: AbdelGawad wins a five-setter.. who knew…

[6] Karim Abdel Gawad (EGY) 3-2 Kareem El Torkey (EGY)  12-10, 3-11, 3-11, 11-4, 11-4 (48m)

Karim

It’s a win! What happened is that I won!

He completely outplayed me in the first game, I was playing lots of unforced errors all over the court.

Karim was playing a lot of winners, and he took a good lead, I was just making too many errors. I found myself 2/1 down. I had to regroup, use all the experience I had in my career to overtake such a talented player.

I hadn’t played him before, but I had seen him play, and I could see not only how good he is, but also how good he is going to be. All credit to him, I’m very happy to close the match today.

My family, my son, they are the most important part of my life. Every time I step away from home, I just want to come back and see him. And you don’t know how much effort my family has to do to keep him off the court! As soon as I step on the court, he wants to get on it. So the minute I get off, I have to play with him. The most difficult part of Squash now is the travelling, being away from him…
