El Sherbini in the zone

R3: [2] Nour El Sherbini (EGY) bt Danielle Letourneau (CAN) 11-1, 11-5, 11-5 (24m)

Hat to the Little Red Hood today, Danielle truly improved as the match went along. Playing Nour for the first time, here, in Egypt, in front of the Pyramids, on a glass court when your opponent has already played on there, while you were slaying away on a traditional court, that WASN’T EASY people!

Jzzzz, that first game, 5m, the only point Danielle got was a tin from Nour. But the Canadian didn’t say die, she varied the height, lobbing nicely and slowing down the pace, and found some crispy angles that started to put Nour under more pressure.

All credit to Danielle, who started to show what she can do on a court at the end of the third. Good spirit, superb athlete… Nour, too good.

“It’s always a pleasure playing here. I’ve had the chance to play here twice and it’s been good for me, once I won and the other I was runner-up. I definitely have good memories here and it’s good to be back, hopefully I can add another memory here.

“I heard Raneem’s voice when I was warming up and I was looking for where she was. I’ve been looking for her the whole match, so I finally saw her!

“It’s really amazing for us to play squash here and gives us a lot of motivation to do our best. Having a lot of support here with our family, friends and the crowd and the likes of Raneem coming to watch us gives us a lot of push. You feel like you are at home and they give us a lot of energy and good vibes.”
