Q1: Barb back in shape 3/0 against dangerous Alison

[14] Barb Sameh (EGY) bt Alison Thomson (SCO)  11-9, 11-6, 11-3 (28m)

An interesting encounter today, between two skillful and attacking players, fluid game, few calls, lovely long shots. Alison impressed me with her crispy boasts and long drop shots and to be honest, I’m not sure what she did wrong to lose the match, even if the score is a bit one sided, it was a very balanced match.

Barb seemed a bit subdued, if I compared it with the last year intense-and-fiery Barb. But maybe she is just more mature and contains her emotions better. Still, whatever she is doing is working for her, after a disappointing last season, she’ll be happy with her first match back…

Barb

After the CIB Open last season, I had a tear in my intercostal muscles, so I stayed away from the courts for 6 weeks. Then I tried to get back on track, but it wasn’t working well, and last spring, I broke my wrist! And that took me off the courts for two and a half months!

So now that I am back, I’m very hungry but I’m trying not to think too much about it. I’m trying to play without any pressure. Still it’s the first match of the season, there is a little nerves, I’m trying to get rid of it.

Showing up for practice was very tough, I lost the spark of the game, but I feel very confident getting back now, I’m really looking forward to the event, I LOVE THAT PLACE!!!
