[3] Hania El Hammamy (EGY) 3-0 Jasmine Hutton (ENG) 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 (35m)
Jasmine, one of the few lefthanders of the Tour, was taking on one of the top favourites of the event in very warm conditions – at 8pm, it’s still 33°C. Those bouncy conditions suit Hania’s physical game, and the Egyptian looked extremely comfortable out there tonight.
Still, Jasmine managed to score a few winners and push the Gazelle into nice rallies. Unfortunately for her, she found herself at the wrong end of very tough rallies. There are not many points to show for a lot of work, but the length of the games says it nicely: 9m for the first game, 13m in the second.
A good fair clean battle, that’s all we ask for…

Hania : “I think I’m excited for the season. I’ve worked hard in the off season. It’s been a bit tricky coming through this event but I’m very excited and very confident on court.
“Having a Diamond event, it’s very prestigious. It’s even bigger than playing a Platinum, which makes it very exciting for players to have two Diamond events, with more points and prize money. It makes everyone keen and hungry to win.
“I’ve ended the last couple of seasons as World No.3. Obviously, I’m very hungry to break the top two and finish the season as World No.2 or even World No.1. But no pressure, if anything I’ve learned from the previous season it’s that I should try to relax and play with freedom and enjoy my squash. I think, so far, I managed to do that in the last two matches and hopefully I can keep doing that for the rest of the event.”
