Day SIX : Round Three begins with Dessouky controversy and Sherbini comeback

The 2024 CIB Egyptian Open continued today at the OWest Complex with eight Round Three matches from the top half of the draws. The afternoon matches are on the traditional court, then for the evening matches action moves to the all-Glass court for the first time.

Afternoon : Momen wins in controversial style, Kennedy, Gilis and Hesham advance

In the Afternoon session fifth seed Gina Kennedy came through a tough all-English battle with Lucy Turmel while sixth seed  Tinne Gilis battled through in three close games against Fayrouz Aboelkheir. Seventh seed Tarek Momen won through to the quarters in a controversial match against Fares Dessouky, who was penalised a conduct game for dissent at 8-8 in the fifth. Fifth seed Mazen Hesham came from a game down to beat compatriot Aly Abou Eleinen.

Evening : Sherbini survives as Glass Court action begins

The evening session saw the Glass Court in the impressive arena come into use. All the matches went to seeding but top seeds Nour El Sherbini and Ali Farag didn’t have it all their own way. Farag had to come down from a game down to beat Nicolas Mueller, and a major upset looked on the cards as Amina Orfi went 2-0 up over Nour El Sherbini – who recovered to win 11-9 in the fifth. The session started and finished with comfortable wins for Hania El Hammamy and Diego Elias.
